FRANKLIN COUNTY - A firefighter was killed and another was injured Tuesday afternoon after the fire truck they were in overturned in Franklin County.
ASHEVILLE - More than half a century after Gus Werhan's tragic death in the line of duty, the city he had protected made sure that the Asheville firefighter's name would never be forgotten.
CARTERET COUNTY - The Wildwood Fire Department becomes part of Morehead City’s department and its staff city employees effective Oct. 1. The city council approved in a unanimous vote on Tuesday contracts with the county for city coverage of the unincorporated Wildwood and Crab Point-Mitchell Village fire districts.
WILMINGTON - The Wilmington Fire Department is currently short-staffed due to various reasons, according to WFD Battalion Chief David Hines. Hines said that Station 15 on Masonboro Loop Road was closed Tuesday because too many employees were absent from work.
ROCKY MOUNT - Quick action by a Good Samaritan on September 6th is being credited for saving the life of an accident victim.

SAMPSON COUNTY - Six people were killed early Saturday when fire destroyed a home in Garland, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said.
